Center for Refugee and Immigrant Health

With more than 28 years of experience in community health in the international setting (including 20 years in Africa) and six years of work in partnership with the Somali community in Minnesota, WellShare International is in a unique position to address health disparities that affect Minnesota’s immigrant and refugee communities. WellShare International is creating a Center for Refugee and Immigrant Health.

The goals of the Center for Refugee and Immigrant Health are:

1. To reduce health disparities within Minnesota’s immigrant and refugee communities.

2. To build the capacity of community-based organizations, health providers and academic institutions to collect data about immigrants and refugees as well as implement community-based health programs.

3. To create opportunities for partnership and collaboration between WellShare International, community organizations that serve immigrants and refugees, health providers, and academic institutions.

4. To improve resource sharing and information exchange around immigrant and refugee health issues within Minnesota and between various organizations (community-based organizations, health providers, academic institutions).

The Center of Excellence is able to provide the following services:

    * Technical assistance with program design, implementation, and evaluation
