Each year, malaria kills nearly one million people, 85 percent of whom are children. According to data from the United Nations and the World Health Organization, malaria costs Africa an estimated $12 billion in lost economic productivity each year and accounts for 40 percent of government health expenditures in countries where it is most pervasive.
For more than 25 years, WellShare has worked to combat the economic, emotional, and physical toll that malaria is exacting on communities in Africa. We partner with community agencies and individuals to create programs that educate community members, improve access to malaria treatments, and protect families from getting the disease. Our most recent focus in malaria prevention and control has been in Uganda.
