WellShare Volunteers in Tanzania display the pregnancy register they helped create.

Volunteer

In 1979, WellShare was started by a group of dedicated volunteers. Thirty years later, we still depend on the work of passionate volunteers to expand our impact around the world.

WellShare offers a variety of internships and volunteering positions both domestically and abroad.  Currently, WellShare welcomes professionals and students (undergraduate and graduate) who are seeking service opportunities or internships in fulfillment of their graduation requirements. Volunteer and internship opportunities with MIHV are available at our headquarters office in Minneapolis, Minnesota and at our field sites in East Africa. We place volunteers with a range of experience and skills, not limited to the health field, to assist with our community-based health programs with refugees in Minnesota and communities in Uganda and Tanzania.

Hear from volunteer Sarah Frommer, Spring '09

The MIHV-Tz office is located in the rural town of Karatu, which is approximately 2 hours west of Arusha. It is located in one of the most beautiful landscapes I have ever seen (that says a lot since I have done quite a bit of traveling). Within a few hours, you have access to Tarangire, Lake Manyara, the Great Rift Valley, Ngorongoro Crater, and the Serengeti. Walking around town you will meet a diversity of local people, including the much talked about Maasai.  Read more about Sarah's experience.
